OeTTINGER Brewery ends sports sponsorship

Based on commercial considerations, the OeTTINGER Brewery will cease sponsorship of professional basketball at the end of the year and thus will not renew its sponsorship contract with the OeTTINGER Rockets. The company thereby confirmed recent reports in the media.

President Dirk Kollmar, who sadly passed away in May 2014, was one of the founders of the Gotha Basketball Club e.V. and shaped the development of basketball in Gotha, both as an official and as a sponsor. The success story, now approaching its 10-year anniversary, culminated this year in promotion of the OeTTINGER Rockets to the 1st National Basketball League. “We have great respect for the efforts made by those responsible at the OeTTINGER Rockets and know that the fans have driven forward the club’s success story with their unbelievable enthusiasm and support,” comments Managing Director Michael Mayer. Nevertheless we find ourselves in an ongoing declining beer market faced with extremely tough competition and have to analyse all investments to steer the company into a secure future. “We have therefore regrettably reached the decision that we can no longer provide lasting support for a national basketball club.” The OeTTINGER Brewery will continue to support popular sports in Gotha. “That is something that is of paramount concern to us,” continues Michael Mayer.
