OeTTINGER brewery in Mönchengladbach awarded State Prize
The OeTTINGER brewery in Mönchengladbach is celebrating the receipt of yet another award. On 9 March, State Agriculture Minister Johannes Remmel presented the 2014 North Rhine-Westphalia State Prize for Food to the company.
OeTTINGER’s Managing Director Dr. Karl Liebl accepted the prize in person on behalf of the company at the ceremony held in the Maxhaus in Düsseldorf: “We are thrilled about the award and yet, at the same time, view it as motivation for the future. Our state-of-the-art machinery enables us to produce cost-effectively, at the same time conserving resources and offering a high-quality range to suit almost every taste.” In recent years a host of modernisation and capacity expansion programmes have contributed to the positive results recorded by the Mönchengladbach site. The brewery is now one of the most modern production facilities in Europe.
A total of 96 companies were awarded the State Prize. The prizes were based on this year’s DLG German Agricultural Society’s Gold Awards. The awards rate the careful choice of raw materials, optimum manufacture and preparation and the sensory factors of smell, texture and taste. OeTTINGER won five gold medals and one silver medal for the quality of its products. However, further criteria are needed to quality for a State Prize for Food, including provision of apprenticeships or the use of sustainability concepts to emphasise the positive image of North Rhine Westphalia as a centre for sustainable food production.
